Our systems are so messed up.
I talked to so many people experiencing homelessness who would commit a petty crime just to go to jail. It meant a meal, a shower, and a bed to sleep on. Preferable to the doorways of downtown Englewood on a cold winter night.
When I interviewed Cross, he was big on working the system. It took him two years, but he did end up finding permanent housing.
